BENUE STATE, Nigeria — Tension has escalated once again in Benue State following a fresh attack by suspected herdsmen, which claimed the lives of two individuals along the Uikpam–Umenger road, near Uikpam town in Guma Local Government Area.

The deadly incident occurred earlier today, adding to the growing list of violent attacks that have plagued the region in recent months. According to eyewitness accounts, the victims were ambushed while traveling on the deserted Uikpam–Umenger road, a route that has become increasingly dangerous due to frequent attacks by armed groups.

Local residents say the area has remained a hotspot for farmer-herder clashes and militia violence, with many communities now living in fear of fresh invasions.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and local authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, sources within the community confirm that the bodies of the deceased have been recovered and that the matter has been reported to law enforcement.

The latest killings have reignited calls for urgent government intervention and enhanced security presence in rural communities across Guma LGA and other volatile parts of Benue State.

Benue has long been one of Nigeria’s most affected states in the ongoing farmer-herder conflict, with hundreds of lives lost and thousands displaced over the years.
