Super Falcons Win 10th WAFCON Title, Earn $1 Million After Stunning Comeback Against Morocco

Rabat, Morocco – July 27, 2025 – Nigeria’s Super Falcons made history on Saturday night by winning their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, defeating hosts Morocco 3–2 in a dramatic final to reclaim their crown and take home the tournament’s $1 million prize money.
The thrilling finale at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium saw the Falcons complete a stunning comeback after trailing by two goals in the first half. The win also served as revenge for their painful 2022 semi-final loss to Morocco, where they were knocked out on penalties.
Morocco looked set for victory early on, as captain Ghizlane Chebbak opened scoring in the 12th minute, followed by Sanaâ Mssoudy’s second goal in the 24th minute, leaving the Nigerian side stunned. But the second half marked a turning point for Nigeria’s resilient team.
Esther Okoronkwo reignited hope for the Super Falcons in the 64th minute with a well-taken penalty. Just seven minutes later, Folashade Florence Ijamilusi found the back of the net with a powerful strike, bringing the scoreline to 2–2.
With the match approaching full time, substitute Jennifer Echegini emerged as the hero. She latched onto a perfectly delivered free kick from Okoronkwo and calmly slotted home the winning goal in the 88th minute, sealing Nigeria’s epic comeback and triggering celebrations across the nation.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named Player of the Tournament, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie earned the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award, reinforcing her status as Africa’s top shot-stopper for the second consecutive edition.
The Super Falcons’ victory continues their unmatched record of never losing a WAFCON final and strengthens their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
