Nigeria has moved up three places to 38th in the latest FIFA world rankings, announced on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles played two key matches over the past month. They convincingly defeated Gabon 4-1 in the 2026 World Cup playoff semi-final before drawing 1-1 with the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final, ultimately losing 4-3 on penalties.
Although Nigeria failed to secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup, the recent performances were sufficient to boost their position in the rankings.
The Super Eagles now have 1,502.46 points, making them the fifth-ranked team in Africa behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria. Morocco leads the continent with 1,713.12 points, Senegal sits 19th with 1,648.07 points, Egypt is 34th on 1,520.68 points, and Algeria ranks 35th with 1,516.37 points.
