The Sultan of Sokoto has declared Wednesday as the official start of the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims across Nigeria.
The announcement followed the confirmed sighting of the crescent moon, in line with Islamic tradition. With the declaration, Muslims nationwide are set to commence a month of fasting, prayer, self-discipline, and increased devotion.
Ramadan, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a period marked by dawn-to-dusk fasting, charity, and spiritual reflection. The Sultan urged the faithful to use the period to promote peace, unity, and compassion, while praying for the country’s stability and progress.
