Strait of Hormuz Remains Restricted After Ceasefire, Says UAE Energy Chief

The Strait of Hormuz has not fully reopened despite a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, according to the chief executive of the UAE’s national oil company.
Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, head of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), said access to the vital waterway is still being tightly controlled and conditioned, raising concerns about global oil supply and trade.
In a statement shared on social media, Al Jaber emphasized that the situation does not reflect free movement of ships, noting that vessels are reportedly required to seek approval before passing through the strait. He described this as a form of restriction rather than free navigation.
The comments come despite earlier claims from U.S. President Donald Trump that the ceasefire agreement included the reopening of the strategic shipping route.
However, shipping activity has not significantly improved since the ceasefire took effect. Analysts report that vessel traffic remains at low levels, similar to the reduced movement observed throughout the conflict period.
Iranian authorities have indicated that they intend to maintain oversight and control of passage through the strait, further contributing to ongoing uncertainty in global energy markets.
The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial passage linking major oil-producing countries in the Persian Gulf to international markets, handling about one-fifth of global oil shipments before disruptions began.
Al Jaber warned that prolonged restrictions could have widespread consequences, including supply delays, rising prices, and increased pressure on global economies.
He also noted that hundreds of oil tankers remain stranded in the Gulf, waiting for clearance to move, highlighting the continued impact of the disruption.
