Human rights advocate, Omoyele Sowore, has revealed that the Court of Appeal in 2022 ordered the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Sowore made the disclosure on Monday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time while responding to questions about the ongoing protest in Abuja demanding Kanu’s freedom.

He explained that he and other activists were attacked by police officers during the peaceful demonstration in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“We were attacked by the Nigerian police. I have done nothing wrong by joining this protest, yet we ended up at the FCT police command,” Sowore said.

He further stated that Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, his brother, and eleven others were arrested during the protest.

Speaking on the legal aspect of Kanu’s detention, Sowore noted, “The Court of Appeal in 2022 ruled that Nnamdi Kanu should be released. That judgment was meant to take effect immediately, but the Nigerian government has refused to obey it.”
