Soludo Tasks New Anambra Monarchs to Unite Their People and Protect Peace
AWKA — Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has urged newly recognised traditional rulers in the state to provide fair and responsible leadership by treating every member of their communities as family.
Soludo gave the directive during the presentation of certificates of recognition to the traditional rulers of Nsugbe and Adazi-Nnukwu, Igwe John Nzekwesili Nweke and Igwe Ethelbirth Muoka.
The governor congratulated the monarchs on their recognition and acknowledged the challenges that often accompany traditional leadership, noting that resistance to authority has remained a longstanding feature of leadership.
He encouraged the new traditional rulers to make peace and unity their top priorities, stressing that their roles now extend to all members of their respective communities.
Soludo also disclosed that the Anambra State Government was developing a new community administration law designed to create a more organised and effective framework for grassroots governance.
According to him, the existing system, largely based on voluntary town unions registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), has contributed to rival leadership structures and prolonged legal disputes in some communities.
The governor said the state was determined to address these challenges and build a more coordinated community governance system as part of its bottom-up development strategy.
He further appealed to experienced traditional rulers to mentor the newly recognised monarchs as the government works towards building peaceful, progressive and globally recognised communities across Anambra State.
Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Barr. Ifeanyi Ezeaka, said the two monarchs successfully completed the required legal process before receiving state recognition.
Ezeaka explained that they were the first traditional rulers to receive certificates under Soludo’s second administration, following the recognition of 12 monarchs during the governor’s first tenure.
Speaking at the event, the two new traditional rulers pledged to promote unity, settle differences and work towards lasting peace and development in their respective communities.
