American rap legend Snoop Dogg has officially become a co-owner of English Championship club Swansea City, marking a major crossover between global entertainment and professional football.
The 53-year-old music icon, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, joins the club’s ownership group alongside football great Luka Modric, the former Real Madrid star and Croatia World Cup finalist. Swansea City made the announcement on Thursday, following a teaser last week where Snoop Dogg was seen modeling the club’s new 2025/26 season home jersey on social media.
Snoop’s involvement comes less than a year after American investors Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen took over the Welsh club in November 2024. With over 100 million followers across his social media platforms, Snoop Dogg is expected to help significantly boost the club’s global visibility and commercial appeal as they aim for promotion back to the Premier League.
Swansea, relegated from the top flight in 2018, are seeking new ways to generate revenue under the profit and sustainability rules governing British football. Club officials believe that Snoop Dogg’s massive influence will enhance brand exposure and attract new sponsorship opportunities.
Speaking on his new venture, Snoop Dogg said via the club’s website:
“My love for football is well known, and it feels special to make my move into club ownership with Swansea City. I’m proud to be part of this journey.”
In April 2025, Swansea also welcomed Luka Modric to its ownership team. Modric, now 39, recently signed with AC Milan after leaving Real Madrid, further strengthening the club’s high-profile backing.
Commenting on Snoop Dogg’s investment, the club’s owners stated:
“To borrow a phrase from Snoop’s back catalogue, this is ‘the next episode’ for Swansea City. His global fanbase and passion for football will help elevate the club’s reach and ambitions as we work to build a competitive squad.”
Swansea’s move mirrors the success story of Welsh rivals Wrexham AFC, who rose rapidly through the ranks under the ownership of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since 2020.
As the 2025/26 season approaches, Swansea City hopes that the influence of its new celebrity co-owner will help chart a successful path back to top-flight football.
