Six pregnant girls rescued as police bust ‘baby factory’ in Rivers
Police in Rivers State says six pregnant girls have been rescued during a raid at a suspected baby factory in Obio/Akpor LGA of the state.
Polycarp Emeka, commissioner of police in the state, disclosed this on Wednesday at a press conference in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital
He said the girls were rescued after the command received credible information which led to the arrest of two suspected child traffickers.
He said Akudo Ozoroh, the 39-year-old suspect, confessed to the crime during interrogation, adding that another woman who was her accomplice was also arrested.
“Eagle-eyed operatives of the Rivers state police command, in furtherance of an investigation, on May 27, 2023, arrested one Akudo Ozoroh, 39, the alleged owner of a child trafficking centre,” the commissioner said.
“Six pregnant girls were rescued. Upon interrogation, Akudo Ozoroh confessed to the crime.
