Shehu Sani: Opposition Senators from PDP, LP, NNPP, APGA, SDP Now Aligned with APC in Senate

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has revealed that lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Social Democratic Party (SDP) are now working closely and “harmoniously” with senators from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Sani lamented that the opposition bench in the Senate has gradually become weak and “almost empty,” as many lawmakers now align themselves with the ruling party.
“The opposition sits on the left-hand side of the Senate President in the Chamber. It appears that the side is becoming empty,” he wrote.
Sani’s remarks came in reaction to comments by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who had earlier described defectors from opposition parties as “cowards.”
However, the former lawmaker suggested that defection or not, most senators elected under opposition parties have already compromised their positions by collaborating with the ruling APC.
He added, “The truth is that even without defections, the LP, PDP, APGA, SDP, and NNPP senators are working harmoniously with the ruling party senators.”
Sani’s statement has sparked conversations about the declining strength of opposition voices in the 10th National Assembly, with many Nigerians expressing concern over what appears to be a one-party dominance in legislative decision-making.
