Ruben Amorim Under Fire: Man United Boss Holds Worst Win Rate of Any Post-War Manager

Ruben Amorim’s time at Manchester United has hit a worrying low, with statistics showing he has the poorest win percentage of any permanent manager at the club since the Second World War.
Since arriving from Sporting Lisbon last November, the Portuguese coach has overseen 47 games, winning 17, drawing 12, and losing 18 — a return that leaves his win rate at just 36.17%. Only Wilf McGuinness comes close to that record with 36.78%. In contrast, recent managers such as Erik ten Hag (54.69%), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (54.17%), David Moyes (52.94%), and Louis van Gaal (52.43%) all fared far better in their early tenures.
United’s latest setback came in a 3-0 defeat to rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford, with Erling Haaland netting twice and Phil Foden adding another. The result leaves United languishing in 14th place, with only four points from their opening four league fixtures this season.
Speaking after the loss, Amorim lamented his side’s defensive lapses:
“If you look at the goals, we can avoid them. The second goal came while we were pressing, but we switched off at a throw-in. For the third, Haaland had too much space. These are moments we must handle better,” he told reporters.
Despite growing calls for him to abandon his preferred 3-4-3 system, Amorim insists he will not change his approach.
“It’s not a record to be proud of, but I won’t abandon my philosophy. If the club wants something different, then they must change the man,” he said.
With pressure mounting, the 40-year-old faces a crucial Premier League clash against Chelsea next weekend — a match that could determine whether he keeps his job.
