Rita Daniels, mother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, has been defeated in the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) presidential election.
The election took place on Saturday during the Guild’s Annual General Meeting in Benin, Edo State, with Rita losing to Abubakar Yakubu, the AGN National Secretary, who now succeeds Emeka Rollas as President.
Yakubu won the contest with 116 votes, narrowly surpassing Rita, who received 113 votes, while three ballots were declared invalid.
His election marks a historic milestone, as Yakubu becomes the first Northern actor to lead the AGN since its founding in the 1990s.
The result comes weeks after former AGN President Emeka Rollas advised Rita to focus on her daughter Regina’s well-being instead of pursuing the Guild presidency.
