Nigerian singer Reekado Banks has admitted that his departure from Mavin Records, the label that launched his career, was premature. Speaking candidly in a recent interview with reality star Teddy A on The Echoo Room, Banks revealed that he realized his decision to leave the label in 2018 came too soon, especially when he began handling his own music business.
Reekado Banks gained prominence after signing with Mavin Records, winning the Rookie of the Year at The Headies in 2014, and securing the controversial Next Rated award at The Headies in 2015. However, despite his success, he chose to part ways with the label and start his own imprint, Banks Music.
During the interview, Banks clarified that his exit was not the result of any conflict. He explained that his contract with Mavin had expired two years before he made the decision to leave. “It wasn’t a conflict situation,” he said. “I was pretty young and fixated on what I wanted to do – I wanted to leave. My contract had ended two years earlier, and I didn’t renew it.”
Banks further admitted, “I thought I could do it on my own, but as soon as I jumped into the sea, I realized how premature it was.” Reflecting on his decision, the singer acknowledged that while his ambition drove him, the timing might have been off.
