“Recruit Your Uncle for Your Dance Crew” – Uzodimma Fires Back at Davido Ahead of Osun Polls
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has delivered a sharp rebuttal to music icon Davido regarding the upcoming August 15 Osun State gubernatorial race, throwing a humorous jab at Governor Ademola Adeleke’s famous dance moves.
The political exchange ignited when the Afrobeats star publicly cautioned an unnamed Imo politician against meddling in the Osun elections. Davido, a fierce and vocal advocate for his uncle, incumbent Governor Adeleke, demanded a transparent electoral process that would allow citizens to freely choose their leader without outside interference.
Speaking through Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Governor Uzodimma brushed off the singer’s remarks. He argued that pleading with the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum—seemingly relying on the fact that Davido’s wife hails from Imo State—is a completely misdirected effort. Instead, Uzodimma advised the musician to focus his energy on convincing the Osun electorate, who hold the true power to decide the election’s outcome.
Taking a direct swipe at Adeleke’s well-known penchant for dancing, the Imo governor boldly predicted a loss for the incumbent. He mockingly suggested that Davido should start preparing his uncle for a life outside the government house, jokingly advising the singer to sign the outgoing governor to his entertainment label as a professional dancer.
Despite the heated rhetorical exchange, Uzodimma reaffirmed his dedication to a fair, credible, and violence-free election. He emphasized that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains firmly focused on grassroots campaigning to secure a definitive victory for its flagbearer, Bola Oyebamiji.
