The Premier League has released an official statement clarifying why Fulham forward Josh King’s goal against Chelsea was ruled out during their clash at Stamford Bridge.
King thought he had opened his senior account for Fulham after finding the net in the first half. Referee Rob Jones initially allowed the goal to stand, but play was halted following a VAR review of Rodrigo Muniz’s tackle on Chelsea defender Trevor Chalobah.
After rewatching the incident on the pitchside monitor, Jones overturned his original decision and disallowed the goal.
Premier League’s Statement
In a statement published on the Premier League Match Centre, the governing body explained the call:
“After VAR review, the referee overturned the original decision of goal to Fulham. Referee announcement: After review, Fulham number nine commits a careless challenge, stands on the foot of the Chelsea defender, therefore we disallow the goal and restart with a Chelsea free kick. There would be no further action.”

To make matters worse for Fulham, Chelsea responded quickly. Joao Pedro scored with a header just before half-time, giving the Blues the lead at Stamford Bridge.
The decision has sparked debate among fans, with many questioning whether the contact was enough to justify overturning the goal.
