The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that the federal government’s top priority for 2026 is the provision of stable, accessible, and sustainable electricity across the country.

The assurance was contained in a statement released on Friday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, following the minister’s New Year message to Nigerians and residents of Oyo State.

“Looking ahead, our focus remains unshakable: to deliver reliable, accessible, and sustainable electricity to power our homes, industries, and aspirations,” Adelabu said.

He emphasized that the government’s approach would be guided by continuity and renewed vigour, with targeted efforts to enhance grid stability and expand transmission infrastructure nationwide.

Adelabu noted that collaboration with Electricity Distribution Companies would be strengthened to improve service delivery, while ensuring metering initiatives reach every community.

“Our Light Up Nigeria programme remains a priority, with special focus on industrial clusters and agricultural hubs to stimulate economic growth and create jobs,” he added.

The minister also highlighted that renewable energy development, including solar and hydropower, would be scaled up to serve underserved communities.

Reflecting on 2025, Adelabu described the year as one of “focused groundwork and deliberate strides” despite challenges, with notable progress in strengthening the national grid and improving overall stability.

He further cited the Presidential Power Initiative (Siemens deal) as a key factor in reducing frequent grid collapses experienced in previous years, assuring Nigerians that Phase One of the initiative would continue to bolster grid reliability.

Adelabu thanked Nigerians for their resilience and urged all stakeholders—governments, communities, the private sector, and citizens—to partner in ongoing power sector reforms. He also called on citizens to protect power infrastructure and adopt energy-efficient practices as a civic responsibility.

Addressing Oyo State residents, the minister said the new year would bring tangible improvements in electricity supply, expressing gratitude for their continued support.

“To my kinsmen and women in Oyo State, your unwavering support continues to fuel my dedication at the national level,” he said.
