The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled a new digital safety and intelligence platform, Gateway Shield, aimed at giving Ogun State residents faster access to security services, real-time incident reporting, and safety trend monitoring.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Adeolu Egbetokun, introduced the innovation as part of his commitment to modernizing policing in Nigeria through technology, data-driven solutions, and citizen partnership.
In a statement released on Thursday, Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, described the app as “a practical expression of our resolve to make security accessible, responsive, and people-centred.”
“This is not just an app, it is a lifeline. We are leveraging smart technology to eliminate barriers between the public and the police, ensuring that help is always within reach,” the statement added.
How Gateway Shield Works
- Access points: Available via Play Store (search GatewayShield), the web www.thegatewayshield.com, and a toll-free emergency line 08000009111.
- Bilingual support: Users are connected to agents at the Ogun State Police Digital Center, who process complaints in English and local languages.
- 24/7 operation: A solar-powered command center staffed by trained IT officers ensures uninterrupted service.
- Wide coverage: Residents can report property disputes, traffic violations, violent crimes, and emergencies, while also tracking local safety trends.
According to the police, the initiative positions Ogun State as a model for citizen-driven, technology-powered security solutions anchored on trust, accessibility, and accountability.
