The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel to the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, along with several others during a protest in Abuja on Monday.
Ejimakor confirmed his arrest through a post on his official X handle (formerly Twitter), revealing that he and others were taken into custody at the FCT Command Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Garki 2, Abuja.
“We’ve just been arrested — myself, Prince Emmanuel, Fine Boy, and others. We are currently at FCT COMMAND CID, No. 1 Zaria Street, Garki 2, Abuja,” he wrote.
Earlier, Ejimakor had accused the police of firing teargas to disperse peaceful demonstrators calling for Kanu’s release, adding that he experienced eye and throat irritation as a result of the gas.
According to reports, the protesters had gathered in the Federal Capital Territory to demand the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.
The demonstration formed part of renewed agitations across the Southeast and Abuja, urging the Federal Government to respect court rulings that had previously ordered Kanu’s freedom.
