Police Arrest Armed Suspect With Locally Made Guns, Live Ammunition in Niger State

Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday in Minna.
According to him, on September 5, 2025, around 8:30 p.m., a patrol team attached to Mashegu Division intercepted the suspect, who hails from Guiye-Doko village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The suspect was caught with two locally made guns and six rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. During interrogation, he confessed to purchasing the guns in Soba village, Mashegu LGA, for ₦180,000 each, while the ammunition was bought at ₦5,000 per round from an unidentified supplier.
Abiodun added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fabricators and suppliers of the weapons.
Four Suspects Nabbed for Transformer Vandalism
In a related development, police operatives also arrested four suspects for allegedly vandalizing an electricity transformer in Gbodoti village, Edati LGA.
Acting on surveillance and intelligence reports, operatives from Enagi Division, with support from local residents, apprehended the suspects on September 3, 2025.
Investigations revealed that the suspects conspired to vandalize and steal cables from transformers in Gbodoti and Guzzan villages. They have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
The Niger State Police Command urged residents to continue providing credible information to help in combating crime and ensuring community safety.
