Polaris Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to community health and social impact as it marks World Cancer Day 2026 with a nationwide free breast cancer screening initiative for women, alongside continued support for free prostate cancer screening for men.
The initiative, announced ahead of World Cancer Day on February 4, 2026, is being implemented in partnership with the Care Organization and Public Enlightenment (C.O.P.E). It is aimed at driving awareness, early detection, and preventive care, underscoring the Bank’s belief that access to quality healthcare is essential to individual and economic wellbeing.
As part of the programme, Polaris Bank will provide free and comprehensive breast cancer screening for 100 women across Nigeria. In addition, the Bank is supporting an ongoing free prostate cancer screening for 250 men aged 40 years and above, being conducted at the Men’s Clinic, 18 Commercial Avenue, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos.
Both interventions align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through improved access to preventive healthcare, SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by prioritising women’s health, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) via collaboration with civil society organisations such as C.O.P.E.
Beyond screenings, the initiative will be supported by educational materials, community engagement activities, and digital awareness campaigns focused on early detection, healthy lifestyle choices, and the importance of routine medical check-ups.
Speaking on the initiative, Rasheed Bolarinwa, Group Head, Brand Management & Corporate Communications, Polaris Bank, stressed that early detection remains one of the most powerful tools in the fight against cancer. He noted that by removing financial barriers and taking screening services closer to communities, the Bank hopes to empower individuals to seek timely medical attention.
The flagship breast cancer screening event is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the C.O.P.E Centre, 39B Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Trained health professionals and volunteers will conduct the exercise, offering both screening services and guidance on cancer prevention, self-examination, and follow-up care.
Participation in the free breast cancer screening is open to women who are Polaris Bank account holders, with pre-registration required. Selection will be based on early and confirmed submissions. Interested applicants are encouraged to register via bit.ly/BCS2026.
While the breast cancer screening focuses on women, Polaris Bank has urged men to support the health of their families by encouraging eligible female relatives to participate. Men aged 40 and above are also invited to benefit from the ongoing free prostate cancer screening at the Men’s Clinic in Sabo, Yaba
