The Plateau State Police Command has announced a ban on the sale, possession, and use of knockouts and fireworks across the state as the festive season approaches, aiming to enhance public safety and prevent panic.
In a statement shared with journalists on Sunday in Jos, Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer, explained that the directive follows repeated concerns over the misuse of fireworks, which often causes fear and unnecessary disturbances among residents.
The Command stated, “Any individual found selling, using, or possessing knockouts and fireworks will be arrested and prosecuted.” Authorities emphasised that strict enforcement measures will be taken to protect communities and maintain public order during celebrations.
Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina also called on religious leaders to advise their congregations to comply with the ban, stressing that responsible leadership within faith communities is key to ensuring safety across Plateau State.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and security before, during, and after the festive season, urging residents to cooperate fully to guarantee a smooth and secure period of celebration.
