Plateau Operation: Troops Free Kidnap Victim, Retrieve N8m Paid to Abductors

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the successful rescue of a kidnapped victim and the recovery of ₦8 million earlier paid as ransom in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a statement by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, spokesperson for the Joint Task Force under Operation Enduring Peace, the breakthrough followed a coordinated military operation carried out on April 25, 2026, by troops stationed in Sector 9, Shendam.
The intervention was launched after a woman was abducted on April 19 from the Bauna area in Shendam LGA. Acting on intelligence and information obtained from an arrested suspect who admitted involvement in the crime, troops traced the victim to a hideout in Padam Forest within Qua’an Pan LGA.
Security forces stormed the location, secured the victim’s release, and successfully retrieved the ₦8 million ransom that had been paid by her family.
Following the rescue, the victim was taken to a general hospital in Shendam for medical evaluation before being safely reunited with her family. The recovered ransom was also returned to her relatives.
The military noted that the operation reflects its ongoing commitment to dismantling criminal networks and safeguarding lives within the region.
Troops have since intensified follow-up operations across Qua’an Pan and Shendam areas to track down other members of the kidnapping syndicate and destroy their hideouts.
The task force also commended residents for their cooperation and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security.
