Peter Obi Unveils “Operation Rescue Nigeria,” Calls for Unity and Credible 2027 Elections

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has launched a new political drive tagged Operation Rescue Nigeria, urging citizens to rally together ahead of the 2027 general elections to chart a better future for the country.
Speaking in Uyo at the OBIDIENT Conference and declaration event of the African Democratic Congress, Obi said the initiative is not driven by personal ambition but by the urgent need to fix Nigeria’s governance challenges for the sake of future generations.
He appealed to Nigerians to rise above ethnic, religious and political divides, stressing that national renewal can only be achieved through unity and democratic participation.
On the electoral process, Obi insisted that the credibility of the 2027 polls must be guaranteed, particularly through transparent, real-time electronic transmission of results. According to him, restoring trust in democracy depends on open and verifiable elections.
Obi also explained his exit from the Labour Party, revealing that he was informed the Independent National Electoral Commission would not recognise the party’s leadership while he remained a member. He reaffirmed his intention to contest the presidency in 2027.
Criticising the current administration, Obi warned that Nigeria’s rising debt profile could mortgage the future, noting that many recent loans would be repaid decades from now. He promised that, if elected, his focus would be on education, healthcare, poverty reduction and improved security.
Meanwhile, OBIDIENT movement coordinator Tanko Yunusa said supporters would mobilise nationwide under the ADC platform, describing the coming election as a defining moment for Nigeria rather than a contest of personalities.
