Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has threatened to take legal action against Nigerian human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, over alleged defamatory statements made on social media.

In a notice issued by EJESIMEN & CO MADIBA CHAMBERS, Obi’s legal team accused Adeyanju of repeatedly publishing derogatory remarks against him on X (formerly Twitter) and other platforms, thereby defaming his reputation.

The notice specifically cited a post made on August 21, where Adeyanju alleged that Obi diverted funds from Anambra State coffers to invest in his family business. In the same post, Adeyanju also claimed that Obi once offered him money under the guise of a “thank you for coming” gesture.

Obi’s lawyers have demanded a public retraction and an unreserved apology, warning that failure to comply could lead to a full legal process.

However, Adeyanju responded defiantly on his official Facebook page late Wednesday, stating that he is ready for the courtroom battle.

“I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah,” Adeyanju wrote.

The lawyer, a vocal critic of Obi, has often clashed with the politician’s supporters—popularly known as Obidients—over his unfavorable posts and sharp criticisms.

In another recent Facebook post, Adeyanju argued that it is “too late” for Obi to ever become President of Nigeria.

The legal standoff between Obi and Adeyanju is expected to intensify in the coming days as Nigerians watch closely how the case unfolds.
