Pastor Enenche Denies Role in Brother’s Arrest, Files Counter Affidavit in ₦100M Rights Violation Suit

Pastor Paul Enenche of Dunamis International Gospel Centre has filed a counter affidavit denying involvement in the alleged arrest and detention of his brother, Alexander Enenche, and two others by the Nigeria Police Force.
The legal battle stems from a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Dunamis pastor Abraham Daniel, along with Alexander and Peter Enenche, against Pastor Enenche, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Nigeria Police Force. The plaintiffs are seeking ₦100 million in damages for what they describe as an “unwarranted infringement” on their fundamental rights.
According to Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/60/2025, the applicants claim that they were arrested and detained between January 7-8 and January 13-14, 2025, allegedly due to opinions expressed on a family WhatsApp group. They argue that their detention violated Section 35(1) of the Nigerian Constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
In response, Pastor Enenche’s younger brother, Samuel Enenche, deposed a counter affidavit denying the allegations. He stated that Abraham Daniel had voluntarily left Dunamis International Gospel Centre and renounced Christianity, embracing atheism and humanism. Samuel further alleged that Daniel had actively worked against the church and Christian leaders, collaborating with media outlets and individuals critical of the faith.
He insisted that Pastor Enenche never reported Daniel or instigated his arrest, stating that the police were merely conducting lawful investigations. He also referenced a statement from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) supporting law enforcement actions against online defamatory attacks on Christian leaders.
Samuel described the lawsuit as an attempt to annoy and ridicule Pastor Enenche while causing unnecessary inconvenience. The case is set to continue at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
