Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, failed to appear at the Lagos State Police invitation on Monday over allegations of multiple rape and other offences that could affect public order.

Okafor was expected to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, before the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing SCID at 10:00 a.m.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said in a Sunday briefing that Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh had ordered a thorough investigation into complaints against the cleric. The allegations reportedly involve sexual misconduct and conduct capable of disturbing public peace.

An SCID officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Okafor did not show up as scheduled. “Following the CP’s directive, the DCP instructed the unit handling the case to brief him, but he failed to appear. By evening, it was clear he would not attend today,” the officer said.

A source familiar with the matter added that Okafor allegedly sent representatives to request an extension to report to the police. “We received calls from his aides asking for more time, assuring that he would eventually comply. That is the latest update we have,” the source said.

Efforts to reach the Police PRO, Abimbola Adebisi, on Monday were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of publication.
