More than 50 armed bandits launched a coordinated attack on three communities—Kaiwa, Gebbe, and Gelawa—in the Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing eight people.
A source said the attackers, riding motorcycles in large numbers, struck simultaneously, causing widespread panic among residents. While some villagers managed to flee to nearby bushes, others were not so fortunate.
“We saw them storming our community, and people immediately ran for safety, but many were trapped. They killed over eight people and abducted an unknown number,” the source said.
Residents said gunfire erupted from multiple directions, forcing many to flee to neighboring villages. The attack on Gebbe was described as unprecedented, with locals noting that such violence had not occurred in recent years.
It remains challenging to determine the full extent of casualties, as many displaced residents have yet to return.
The Kebbi State Police Command, through spokesman SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the incident and stated that security forces have launched coordinated operations in the affected areas. He said seven victims were initially confirmed dead, while another later died during treatment.
