Osun 2026: Davido Hints at Governor Adeleke’s Defection to APC in New Song “From Umbrella to Broom”

july 14, 2025 – Nigerian music star Davido has stirred major political buzz in Osun State with the release of his new single, “From Umbrella to Broom,” which appears to confirm rumors of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The speculation, which started last month after Davido and Governor Adeleke visited President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence for a closed-door meeting, has now gained traction with the artist’s lyrical confirmation.

In the newly released track, Davido uses symbolic language to describe the political shift, singing:

“New broom go sweep better. Ẹtan abẹla si ìjọba wa. From umbrella to the broom. Adegbe adafa, alagbada alefa…”

He continues by criticizing the current challenges in the state and expressing hope for change:

“Eyan marun, mefa, kilode ta n suffer. New broom go sweep better. Them tori us propaganda from January to December we no gbadun NEPA. So all of our youths wan go America.”

The lyrics clearly reference the PDP’s umbrella symbol and the APC’s broom insignia, signaling what could be a significant political realignment in Osun State.

Davido, who is Governor Adeleke’s nephew, has been a strong supporter of his uncle’s administration but suggests in the song that the defection is driven by a vision to reposition the state for better governance and youth empowerment.

If confirmed, Adeleke’s move to the APC would dramatically reshape Osun’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 elections.
