The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of one person and the arrest of five suspects following a violent confrontation between rival cult groups in the Onireke and Isashi communities of Badagry, Lagos State.

According to the police, the clash, which occurred late Saturday night, prompted a swift response from operatives who were deployed to restore calm and prevent further bloodshed.

During the operation, police officers recovered a cache of weapons, including a locally made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two expended cartridges, and several other dangerous items. Also recovered were a Toyota Avalon (registration number KTU 610 JB), a laptop, and mobile phones belonging to the suspects.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspects, aged between 28 and 43 years, were apprehended during a coordinated operation that quickly brought the situation under control.

“Police received a distress call around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, reporting a violent clash between rival cult groups in Onireke and Isashi. Tactical teams were immediately deployed to the area, where three injured victims were rescued and taken to the hospital,” Adebisi said.

She added that one of the victims was later confirmed dead at Badagry General Hospital, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Adebisi further revealed that five suspects believed to have participated in the attack have been arrested and are currently being interrogated. They will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to track down other fleeing cult members, as security patrols have been intensified across the affected communities to prevent any retaliatory attacks.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their quick intervention and professionalism during the operation.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to eradicating cultism and violent crimes across Lagos State, urging residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
