At least one person has been killed following a violent confrontation between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in the Awoyaya area of Lagos State.

The unrest, captured in several videos shared on the Telegram channel Naija Confra, a platform known for documenting cult-related incidents, caused widespread panic among residents as the clashes intensified.

Reports indicate that the violence began on Monday and continued into Tuesday, resulting in the death of a young man identified only as Pelebe. Video footage shows him wearing blue jeans and a white shirt, lying on the ground and writhing in pain. Other clips depict terrified residents fleeing while some bystanders filmed the chaos from a distance. Graphic images also emerged showing another victim with a gunshot wound to the leg.

A post on Naija Confra stated: “Earlier today (Tuesday), we reported a serious cult clash in the Awoyaya area of Ibeju-Lekki involving Eiye and Aiye, where killings occurred yesterday (Monday) and today (Tuesday).” It also noted that another individual “was shot in the leg in the Iya Alagbo area” during a separate incident.

Although there are unconfirmed reports that security operatives made arrests, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, told our correspondent she would provide updates but had not done so at the time of filing this report.

This outbreak comes less than two weeks after gunmen, allegedly from rival cult groups, opened fire during the annual masquerade festival in Orile-Iganmu, Lagos, highlighting a worrying trend of rising violence linked to confraternity rivalries in the state.
