Security operatives in Ondo State have dismantled a suspected baby trafficking operation in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of the alleged mastermind, identified as Ada Clement.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, five pregnant minors were rescued from the unlawfully run facility during the raid. Investigations indicate that newborn girls were sold for a minimum of ₦400,000, while male infants were allegedly priced from ₦600,000 upward. Authorities confirmed that one of the victims recently gave birth to a baby boy inside the establishment.
The illicit operation was uncovered following a report filed by a 17-year-old survivor, Vivian Peter, who escaped the premises. She disclosed that she had been trafficked from Akwa Ibom State to Ore under the false promise of employment. Seeking safety, she fled to the Ore Police Division and provided critical information that led to the enforcement action.
Ayanlade stated that both Clement and her collaborators have admitted involvement in the scheme. Preliminary findings show that the location functioned as a baby factory where vulnerable pregnant girls were confined until delivery, after which their newborns were sold to willing buyers.
The Ondo State Police Command has affirmed that further investigations are currently underway to unravel the full network behind the trafficking operation and ensure all perpetrators face prosecution.
