Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has revealed that her local parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was divided over President Bola Tinubu’s controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket during the 2023 general elections.

Speaking in her newly released book, “The Journey of Grace: Giving Thanks in All Things,” published to mark her 65th birthday, Mrs Tinubu recounted the challenges her family faced throughout the presidential campaign.

She disclosed that the same-faith ticket sparked resentment among members of her church, creating deep divisions within the congregation.

“One of such decisions was the unpopular Muslim/Muslim ticket. My being a Christian did not matter. My local Assembly, Redeemed Christian Church of God, was split,” she wrote.

The former senator noted that the controversy highlighted the political diversity within the church, as members belonged to different political parties.

She also recalled a similar experience in 2011 when her campaign posters for the Lagos Central Senatorial seat were rejected in the same church.

Despite the resistance, Oluremi Tinubu said she never abandoned her worship in the RCCG parish.

“But I kept attending church, and I thank God I have grown from being a baby to a mature Christian. So, the little resentment I witnessed from a few was met with the peace of God,” she added.

The First Lady emphasized that despite the odds stacked against her husband during the election, they pressed forward with faith and hope in God, believing in His divine guidance.
