Oliseh Optimistic as Iwobi and Bassey Shine in Fulham’s Triumph Over Arsenal
In the countdown to the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, Sunday Oliseh, former Super Eagles player and coach, foresees a promising future for Nigeria. This optimism stems from the commendable performance of Fulham’s dynamic duo, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, who showcased their prowess in a thrilling 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Craven Cottage.
Despite a rocky start, with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka securing an early lead in the fifth minute, Fulham bounced back. Raul Jiminez netted the equalizer in the 29th minute, and Bobby Decordova-Reid sealed the deal in the 60th minute, crushing Arsenal’s aspirations of topping the table into the new year
Impressed by the maturity and discipline exhibited by Bassey and Iwobi, both instrumental in Fulham’s triumph, Oliseh expressed his admiration, emphasizing the encouraging impact on Nigeria’s AFCON prospects.
“Extremely impressed by the maturity and discipline put up versus Arsenal, by Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi as they played decisive roles in Fulham’s victory over a seemingly, mentally tired Arsenal. Encouraging for the AFCON,” Oliseh conveyed post-game.
Having wrapped up their commitments with Fulham, Iwobi and Bassey are set to join the national squad in the United Arab Emirates on January 2 for the AFCON preparations. The duo’s stellar performance raises expectations for a formidable Nigerian presence at the upcoming tournament.
