The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered a human trafficking network operated by Cameroonian nationals who lured victims with fake promises of visa processing before holding them captive.

The syndicate was exposed after a Cameroonian victim managed to escape from a hideout in the Pakuro area of Obafemi Owode Local Government and alerted authorities. She explained that she was deceived by a man identified as Donald, who claimed he could help secure a Canadian visa for her.

Upon arriving at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, the victim and her younger sister were picked up by members of the syndicate and taken to Mowe, Ogun State, where they were held against their will.

Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit conducted a raid on the hideout and rescued a woman identified as Kengne Maeva unharmed. Two male suspects — Ndzana Kamga Isidore and Tingue Stephen — were arrested during the operation, while the prime suspect, Donald, fled.

Odutola disclosed that the victims’ relatives in Cameroon had already paid a ransom of 3.6 million CFA into the bank account of the fleeing suspect before the escape.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed continued surveillance on similar schemes across the state. He also ordered security formations to work with community leaders and landlords, especially in rural areas, to report suspicious foreign nationals renting apartments.

He assured that the command remains committed to protecting residents and eliminating criminal networks.Earlier in the week, the command apprehended another suspect, identified as Elizabeth Thomson, for allegedly defrauding three people of ₦8.5 million using fake Canadian work visas. The victims only discovered the documents were counterfeit after attempting verification at the Visa Facilitation Service office in Lagos.
