Ogun Police Nab Suspected Eiye Cultist With Gun, Live Ammunition in Abeokuta
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected member of the notorious Eiye Confraternity, identified as Ismail Afolabi, who was caught with a loaded, locally fabricated double-barrel shotgun.
According to a press statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the arrest followed credible intelligence about a secret cult gathering in Abeokuta.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, took place on June 27, 2025, around 5:30 PM in the Saje area of Car Wash, Abeokuta, where members of the confraternity were allegedly holding a clandestine meeting.
“Upon swift arrival at the location, officers apprehended the suspect, Ismail Afolabi, who was attempting to flee the scene,” Odutola said. “He was found with a cross-body bag containing a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun loaded with live cartridges.”
Preliminary investigations have commenced, and police say efforts are ongoing to track down other cult members who escaped during the raid.
SP Odutola reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eliminating cult-related violence and ensuring public safety across Ogun State.
“The Ogun State Police Command will continue to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace to all communities,” she stated.
