The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) has condemned what it described as an unlawful invasion of its premises by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the early hours of Sunday, August 10, 2025.
In a statement issued by its Managing Director, Vitalis Ortese, the OOPL demanded an immediate public apology from the EFCC to all individuals whose rights were allegedly violated during the raid, including those who sustained injuries. The management warned that failure to comply would result in legal action.
According to the Library, the late-night operation, which occurred around 2 a.m., disrupted a private gathering within the complex, leaving several people injured. Armed EFCC operatives reportedly stormed the venue and arrested some attendees.
Describing the raid — which the EFCC called a sting operation — as a gross violation of fundamental human rights and an affront to the Library’s corporate rights, the OOPL criticised the agency’s approach. It claimed that police officers were already on duty at the event, with additional personnel deployed from Kemta Police Station, Abeokuta, none of whom were informed about the EFCC’s plans.
“In the meantime, management demands an explanation of these impudent actions from the commission and an apology from the EFCC authorities for the infringement of its rights, to all those who gathered, and those who sustained serious injuries from the gangster-like induced chaos,” the statement read.
The Library confirmed it has launched its own investigation into the incident and will forward its findings to relevant authorities, including the EFCC, the Nigeria Police Force, and the State Security Service (SSS).
