The Northern chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned the recent wave of deadly attacks across Kwara, Borno, and Kebbi States, describing them as a grave threat to national peace and security.

In a statement on Wednesday, Northern CAN Chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, called the incidents “painful reminders of the escalating insecurity confronting Nigerians and the sacrifices of security personnel.”

He highlighted the tragic assault on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Kwara State, which left worshippers dead and several others abducted, the killing of a senior military officer by ISWAP terrorists in Borno State, and the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.

Rev. Hayab expressed solidarity with the affected families, noting that the trauma of losing loved ones or having children taken hostage is “unbearable.” He prayed for comfort for the bereaved, healing for the injured, and the safe return of all abducted persons.

While commending the Nigerian Armed Forces for their dedication, he warned that the recent surge in terror attacks appears to be a deliberate attempt to destabilize the nation. He urged military personnel to remain resolute and not allow these attacks to weaken their morale.

Rev. Hayab also called on the new service chiefs to intensify counter-insurgency operations and demonstrate a renewed commitment to defeating terrorists, bandits, and other criminal networks threatening the country.

He further appealed to the Federal Government to strengthen security measures around schools, places of worship, and other vulnerable sites, stressing that Nigerians expect decisive action to ensure the perpetrators face justice.

Describing the attacks as “unacceptable acts of evil,” Northern CAN urged enhanced collaboration between security agencies, state governments, and local communities to prevent further tragedies.
