Noni Madueke Passes Arsenal Medical Ahead of £52m Transfer from Chelsea as Arteta Evaluates Tactical Fit

Noni Madueke has reportedly passed his medical at Arsenal, with an official announcement of his transfer from Chelsea expected soon. The winger is set to join the Gunners in a deal that could rise to £52 million, as manager Mikel Arteta continues a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The 23-year-old becomes the latest high-profile addition to Arsenal’s summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi, and with a deal for Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon also nearing completion.

According to HandofArsenal, Madueke completed his medical earlier this week, and final contract details are being finalised as Arsenal look to bolster their attacking options.

Arteta Assessing Madueke’s Role at Arsenal

Madueke’s arrival raises questions about how he fits into Arsenal’s attacking structure. Known for his explosive dribbling and ability to create chances, the England international scored seven Premier League goals in the 2024/25 season, although he endured a goal drought in his final 11 league matches.

Despite the scoring dip, Madueke remained one of Chelsea’s most dangerous creators. He averaged 3.54 shots per 90 minutes, the fourth-highest in the Premier League last season. He also led the Chelsea squad with 154 progressive carries, showcasing his skill in advancing the ball into dangerous areas.

Primarily deployed as a right winger, Madueke may serve as a backup or rotational option for Bukayo Saka, who has made the right flank his own under Arteta. However, the Arsenal boss may also consider using Madueke on the left wing, where Gabriel Martinelli has struggled to consistently deliver against compact defensive setups.

While Martinelli excels in transition and attacking space, Madueke’s close control and dribbling could offer a more technical option when facing deep-lying defences.

Arsenal’s Summer Rebuild in Full Swing

With Madueke set to be unveiled soon, Arsenal are poised to complete a trio of new signings that also includes Zubimendi and Gyokeres. The club is aiming to build depth and versatility in key areas as they target a Premier League title challenge and deeper runs in Europe.

Madueke’s addition reflects Arteta’s strategy of assembling a dynamic, adaptable squad capable of competing across all competitions.
