In a public statement released on Saturday, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Femi Soneye, explained that the temporary closure is part of proactive efforts to ensure the long-term efficiency and optimal performance of the refinery.
“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) wishes to inform the general public that the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) will undergo a planned maintenance shutdown,” the statement read.
Soneye emphasized that the corporation is working in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to conduct the operations with full transparency and adherence to industry standards.
“We are working closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the maintenance and assessment activities are carried out efficiently and transparently,” he added.
NNPC reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable energy security in Nigeria, pledging to keep the public informed throughout the maintenance process.
“Further updates will be provided regularly through our official channels, including our website, media platforms, and public statements,” the company assured.
This shutdown marks a significant phase in the ongoing rehabilitation efforts at the Port Harcourt refinery, which has long been a focal point in Nigeria’s energy infrastructure revival strategy.
