The pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMShttp://The pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, in Niger Republichttp://Niger Republic has significantly reduced following fuel supplies from Nigeria. Reports from multiple border communities and security sources confirm that hundreds of petrol tankers have been crossing into Niger, helping to ease the fuel crisis that recently gripped the West African nation.

Just days ago, the price of petrol in Niger Republic soared to around N10,000 per litre due to severe shortages. However, with the intervention of the Nigerian government, prices have now dropped to approximately N5,000 per litre, providing much-needed relief to citizens.

This development follows an agreement between both countries after a delegation from Niger’s military junta visited Abuja for negotiations. The meeting led to the approval of 300 petrol trucks for delivery to Niger, a move seen as a strategic step by Nigeria to improve diplomatic relations and encourage Niger’s return to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Speaking on the situation, Faruku Lawali, a resident of Agadez, confirmed that while fuel queues still exist, the availability of petrol has greatly improved. “The support and supply of fuel have helped us in no small way, and we appreciate the Nigerian government,” he stated.

Usman Aliyu, a commercial driver operating between Nigeria and Niger, echoed similar sentiments, praising Nigeria’s intervention. “With what Nigeria has done, I just realized that blood is actually thicker than water,” he remarked, noting that the drastic drop in petrol prices has eased transportation difficulties.

Although the Nigeria Customs Service has yet to officially confirm the fuel movement, security personnel at the Illela border acknowledged the ongoing supply, indicating it was part of a formal agreement between the two nations.

As petrol supply stabilizes in Niger, many citizens have expressed gratitude to Nigeria for its timely assistance, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation in times of crisis.
