Nigerians Trapped in Israel-Iran Conflict Plead for Rescue from Underground Bunkers
Tel Aviv, Israel — June 21, 2025:
As the Israel-Iran war escalates, dozens of Nigerian nationals stranded in Israel are urgently calling on the Nigerian government and international agencies for evacuation and support. Many are currently hiding in underground bomb shelters as air raid sirens continue to sound across major cities, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Several Nigerians, including students, business travelers, and religious tourists, have been caught off guard by the sudden outbreak of hostilities between Israel and Iran. With transportation disrupted and airports either shut down or operating at reduced capacity, many have found themselves trapped with limited food, water, and communication.
“We are terrified. The bombings don’t stop, and we have no way out. We beg the Nigerian government to come to our aid,” said Chinyere Okafor, a Nigerian student sheltering near Haifa.
Social media platforms have been flooded with videos and messages from Nigerians pleading for immediate evacuation, using hashtags like #NigeriansInIsrael, #IsraelIranWar, and #EvacuateNow to gain attention.
The Nigerian embassy in Tel Aviv has confirmed it is aware of the situation and is working with Israeli authorities and international partners to assess safe evacuation routes. However, the embassy warned that ongoing missile strikes and air defense activity make any large-scale evacuation effort extremely complex and dangerous at this time.
As of June 21, 2025, over 300 Nigerian citizens are estimated to be in Israel, with many still unaccounted for due to disrupted mobile networks and power outages.
Human rights organizations and diaspora advocacy groups are also urging the Nigerian government to deploy emergency resources and negotiate humanitarian corridors for safe passage out of the conflict zone.
