Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has sparked nationwide outrage after secretly marrying a fourth wife, Hiqma, in a private ceremony held last Saturday in Abuja.

The intimate event was reportedly attended by close friends and family members. News of the marriage surfaced after Bello’s third wife, Hafiza, shared a video from the ceremony on Instagram.

In her post, Hafiza wrote:
“Alhamdulillah, our family just got a little bigger! A warm welcome to our new family member, Mrs. Hiqma Yahaya Bello.”

Prior to the latest union, Yahaya Bello was already married to three women—Amina Oyiza, Rashida, and Hafiza Bello.

However, the development has drawn sharp criticism from Nigerians across social media platforms. Many questioned the timing of the wedding, citing Bello’s ongoing legal battles and claims of health-related travel needs.

One X (formerly Twitter) user, @tboss_guy, commented:
“Person wey talk sey him nor well say make court give am him passport make him go check up for abroad. Where him get strength to knack new wife?”

@uhl_moving added:
“Kogi State has been unlucky with governors. Imagine a confluence state that is strategically placed on the map, with viable mineral resources, and yet still ranks as one of the poorest states in the country. It’s crazy.”

Another user, @realkaykerry, questioned:
“I thought EFCC was looking for him?”

Others mocked his previous court claims of having health challenges.
@TheHeroNG wrote:
“He no get ‘potassium’ and ‘mild hypertension’ conditions again? Abi this is part of the recommended treatment?”

@Shoremekunjuli1 added:
“Person wey suppose dey behind bars dey wed even when been investigated…tells u more bout Nigeria.”

@freshwealt95610 posted:
“Same man that want to travel abroad for medical checkup, so he still active? He’s just looking for a way to enjoy outside Nigeria.”

The marriage comes amid ongoing investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), raising public concerns over the state of accountability and justice in Nigeria.
