Nigerian music stars recorded impressive earnings of over N60 billion from Spotify in 2025, according to the streaming platform’s latest annual report.
The report highlights a remarkable surge in revenue, showing that earnings by Nigerian artists have increased by more than 140 percent over the past two years, reflecting the growing global appeal of Afrobeats and related genres.
A significant portion of the income came from independent creators, with about 58 percent of total royalties generated by artists operating without major record labels or under independent platforms.
Streaming numbers also saw a major boost, with Nigerian artists amassing over 30.3 billion streams and 1.6 billion hours of listening time within the year.
Female Nigerian artists were not left behind, as their local streaming figures rose by 55 percent, signaling increased recognition and audience support.
Globally, Nigerian music continued to dominate playlists, with artists featured in nearly 320 million user-generated playlists worldwide and over 12 million playlists within Nigeria alone. In total, more than 60 million playlists on Spotify included Nigerian artists in 2025.
Industry observers say the figures further cement Nigeria’s position as a powerhouse in the global music scene, driven by digital platforms and an expanding international fan base.
