Abuja, August 2, 2025 – The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a strong advisory warning Nigerian citizens to strictly adhere to the conditions of their United States (U.S.) visas to avoid revocation, deportation, or future travel bans.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Akinsola Akinlabi, said the warning follows concerns raised by the U.S. Government regarding the growing cases of visa misuse by Nigerians.

According to the NIS, U.S. visa holders must ensure their activities align with the purpose stated during their visa applications. Any breach of visa conditions, including overstaying or engaging in activities outside the approved scope, may result in severe penalties.

“U.S. authorities conduct security checks beyond the initial entry point. Violation of immigration laws can lead to visa cancellation, deportation, and long-term ineligibility for future travel to the United States,” Akinlabi stated.

The advisory also highlighted that Nigerian students in the U.S. must remain in active study programs and avoid unauthorized withdrawal or absenteeism, as such violations could trigger immediate visa revocation.

In addition, the NIS cautioned applicants that U.S. consular officers reserve the right to deny tourist visas to individuals suspected of traveling primarily to give birth, aiming to secure U.S. citizenship for their children.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service will continue to work closely with the U.S. Mission in Abuja to ensure Nigeria avoids inclusion in any expanded visa restrictions. We urge all Nigerian citizens to comply with U.S. visa rules to preserve legitimate travel opportunities,” the statement concluded.
