In a coordinated security operation, troops of the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade have arrested 31 suspected criminals linked to cybercrime, kidnapping, and armed robbery in Benin City, Edo State.

The raid, which took place at a residential compound in First Bank Estate, Awesome Garden, along the Benin-Sapele Bypass, was led by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Ebenezer Oduyebo. The action followed credible intelligence reports pointing to the activities of a notorious fraud syndicate.

A statement issued by the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Captain Chinonso Oteh, confirmed that several incriminating items were recovered from the scene. These include a Toyota vehicle, laptops, smartphones, cash, fetish objects, and a shrine pot believed to be used for ritual purposes.

Preliminary findings revealed that some of the victims were lured to the location by a suspect identified as Mr. Marvin Osabunye, currently on the run. Many of the individuals had been confined within the building for up to two years under the guise of employment opportunities.

All 31 suspects and recovered evidence have been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Benin Zonal Office for further investigation and prosecution.

Brig-Gen. Oduyebo praised the efforts of the troops and collaborating security agencies for executing a successful operation, reiterating the military’s resolve to eradicate criminal elements across the state.
