The Nigerian government has downplayed a recent security advisory issued by the United States Department of State, which authorised the evacuation of non-essential staff and their families from its embassy in Abuja.

Reacting on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the move as a standard precaution rather than an indication of widespread insecurity across the country.

According to the minister, Nigeria’s institutions continue to function normally, with governance, economic activities, and daily life proceeding without disruption. He emphasized that the U.S. decision was guided by its internal safety protocols and should not be interpreted as a sign of national instability.

“Although there are isolated security concerns in certain areas, there is no collapse of law and order. Most parts of the country remain peaceful and stable,” Idris stated.

He further highlighted progress made by security agencies, noting that coordinated military operations, improved intelligence gathering, and enhanced collaboration among agencies have led to tangible results.

The minister added that recent efforts have weakened criminal networks, reduced the activities of armed groups, and improved safety in previously vulnerable communities.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s position on the global stage, Idris maintained that the country remains open to investors, tourists, and business activities, stressing that ongoing economic reforms are boosting confidence and strengthening Nigeria’s international reputation.
