Nigeria Police Repatriates Chinese Fugitive Dai Qisheng in LandmarkNorthern States

August 26, 2025 — The Nigeria Police Force has repatriated a notorious Chinese gang leader, Mr. Dai Qisheng, in what has been described as a landmark operation coordinated by INTERPOL.
The mission was executed through INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, working in close collaboration with NCB Beijing and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria. The operation highlights Nigeria’s growing role in strengthening international security and tackling transnational organized crime.
Mr. Dai, who was wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for masterminding violent organized crimes, fled China in 2024 after the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County issued a warrant for his arrest. He was tracked down and arrested in Abuja on August 8, 2025, by operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja.
Following his arrest, he was successfully repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under a police-to-police cooperation framework facilitated by INTERPOL.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, hailed the operation as a major success, stressing that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for international fugitives.
“The arrest and repatriation of Dai Qisheng sends a clear message to criminals worldwide that Nigeria will not be a hiding place for fugitives. We will continue to leverage intelligence-sharing and international partnerships to ensure justice is served without borders,” the IGP said.
The successful operation is expected to further strengthen Nigeria’s global security partnerships and reaffirm its commitment to combating cross-border crime.
