Nigeria Police Repatriate Chinese Gang Leader Dai Qisheng in Major INTERPOL Operation

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully repatriated a notorious Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China in what has been described as a landmark international policing operation.
The development was confirmed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday, August 24, 2025. According to the statement, the operation was coordinated by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, in close collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.
Dai, identified as a gang leader behind violent organized crimes in Guizhou Province, fled China in 2024 after the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County issued a warrant for his arrest. He was tracked down and arrested by INTERPOL operatives in Abuja on August 8, 2025, after months of surveillance.
On August 15, 2025, he was formally repatriated to Beijing under a police-to-police cooperation framework facilitated by INTERPOL.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operation, describing it as proof of Nigeria’s firm commitment to global justice and security.
“This operation sends a strong warning to international criminals: Nigeria will never be a safe haven for fugitives,” the IGP declared.
He further emphasized that effective intelligence-sharing, joint operations, and strong international partnerships are vital to dismantling transnational criminal networks.
The Nigeria Police reiterated that the success of this high-profile operation underscores the nation’s dedication to strengthening global law enforcement cooperation and upholding the rule of law.
