Nigeria Police Arrest Lagos Teacher for Assaulting Three-Year-Old Pupil in Viral Video

A disturbing video showing a teacher physically assaulting a three-year-old pupil has led to the swift arrest of the educator, Stella Nwadigo, at Christ-Mitots School, located on Isawo Road in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The incident, which surfaced on Wednesday, has sparked outrage across social media and beyond, with many condemning the teacher’s actions and calling for stricter measures in educational institutions.

In the viral video, which lasted for two minutes, Nwadigo was seen striking the young pupil repeatedly while attempting to teach the child numbers 61 and 62. The distressed child, whose identity remains unknown, was visibly upset as the teacher continued her harsh treatment during the lesson. The video quickly gained traction online, drawing sharp criticism from concerned citizens.

One user, Mr Xperience, expressed his outrage, writing, “She’s not even remorseful one bit. I hate when they just arrest them like that without any form of torture and headbutts.” Another user, MarketerKazeem, added, “That was so swift. She doesn’t know what’s going on yet until they sentence her because they will remand her straight. Una do well Social media people.”

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday afternoon, saying, “Thank you for the update. She is currently in our custody for further necessary actions.” The police have assured that they will take the necessary steps as investigations continue.

The incident has triggered a wave of calls for stronger monitoring and regulation of schools to prevent future occurrences. Many have pointed out that this is not an isolated event and that stricter measures are needed to protect children in educational settings.

Public reactions have varied, with some calling for severe penalties. Chidera, one such individual, said, “She deserves at least one year in jail or she will pay for it. If na so all of us learn by now our ears for Don lock now.” Another user, Obisesan1, placed the blame on the school’s management, saying, “Schools owners should do due diligence before employing some of these teachers; some of them are heartbroken already.”

As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a harsh reminder of the importance of safeguarding the well-being of children in schools. Parents, students, and educators alike are calling for accountability and systemic change in the way schools handle both discipline and teacher hiring processes.
