The Nigeria Customs Service has set an ambitious revenue outlook for 2026, projecting collections of up to ₦9 trillion following a record performance in the previous year.
Speaking at the commissioning of a jetty at the Western Marine Command, Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi said projections based on operational trends and ongoing engagements suggest the Service could surpass last year’s results. He noted that discussions are ongoing with the National Assembly’s appropriation committees, which will determine the final benchmark.
Adeniyi explained that trade facilitation will be a major focus in 2026, arguing that smoother processes boost cargo turnover and, ultimately, revenue generation. He also highlighted growing trust and compliance among stakeholders, citing over ₦100 billion recorded through voluntary disclosures in 2025—an unprecedented figure the Service aims to sustain.
Officials believe improved controls, stakeholder engagement, and compliance culture will underpin the push toward the new target, even as lawmakers conclude deliberations on the official revenue goal.
